ROCHESTER - A North Carolina man was arrested for failing to report his sexual offender status in New Hampshire.
Back on March 7, detectives from the New Hampshire State Police Sex Offender Registry obtained an arrest warrant for Gary Dean, 65, after receiving information that Dean had absconded from Rochester in 2022, according to a State Police release sent out Thursday.
Dean, a sexual offender, is required to register quarterly as a tier III offender in New Hampshire. Je began registering in 2017, after being released from the New Hampshire State Prison, where he served 30 years on a 1985 conviction of aggravated felonious sexual assault and robbery.
An investigation determined that Dean failed to register as a sex offender in New Hampshire since 2022 and relocated to High Point, N.C., without filling out paperwork advising that he was registering outside of New Hampshire, as required. He also failed to register as a sex offender with authorities in North Carolina.
Dean was arrested and taken into custody in High Point and held on a fugitive from justice warrant. He was transported to New Hampshire after waiving extradition on Wednesday and charged with six felony counts of duty to report.
Dean remains in custody at Strafford County Jail today following his arraignment in Rochester Circuit Court on Thursday, according to jail personnel.
