NASHUA – A Nashua woman died in a fire at a multifamily home in Nashua on Sunday.
Firefighters responded around 11 p.m. to 24 Morgan Street for a reported fire. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire coming from the second floor of the residence.
While the flames were quickly knocked down, one apartment unit was badly damaged, and the rest of the building suffered smoke damage.
During a search of the building, fire personnel located an adult female deceased on the second floor, according to safety officials. She was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy and identified as Stephanie D. Lemay, 46, whose cause of death was determined to be smoke inhalation.
Approximately 10 residents were also displaced due to the fire.
Investigators with the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene and are leading the investigation into the origin and cause of the fire. While all aspects of the fire remain under investigation, it is not currently considered suspicious.
The members of Nashua Fire Rescue and the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office would like to remind residents to always evacuate immediately when smoke alarms activate and to close doors while exiting.
