YCSO announces DUI checkpoints for Thursday

ALFRED, Maine - The York County Sheriff's Office will be conducting sobriety checkpoints in various locations in York County on Thursday. Enforcement activities will be done in Waterboro, Lyman and Arundel along routes 111, 1 and 5. This enforcement effort is in conjunction with the Regional Impaired Driving Enforcement Team (R.I.D.E.) and is being utilized to reduce the incidents of intoxicated and impaired motorists being involved in collisions.

The checkpoints are also a law enforcement tool to apprehend the impaired motorists before they injure or kill those in their path.

This enforcement team is funded by the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety. Members of the R.I.D.E. Team are experienced law enforcement officers in detecting impaired drivers. Some members of the team are also expert drug recognition technicians. The team is made up of members from the York County Sheriff's Office, Maine State Police and representatives from most police departments in York County.

In addition to removing impaired motorists, the checkpoint is aimed at increasing awareness of driving impaired and the consequences for those who do.
