With election over, let's hope bad governing is behind us, too

The three candidates that ran for selectmen recently all spoke of their vision and hopes for the future of Milton. Each of them spoke of how and what needed to change in order to gain the respect and confidence of the people in Milton.

Now that the election is behind us, will the winds of change prevail, or will it be more of the same? With a three member board of selectmen, it takes a "team" to make a difference. Individual personalities need to be set aside for the sake of Milton. There is no I in team. One individual selectman does not have the authority to run things as he sees fit. The three must work together as a team and put their differences aside.

Will the new selectmen of Milton be able to move forward in a positive way, or will it be more of the same. The hidden agendas, secret meeting, and individual agendas have to stop for the sake of all of Milton.

With possible pending litigation regarding Right to know requests concerning the two seated members of the Board of Selectmen, can the damage be repaired before it is too late?

Since two selectmen constitute a quorum and an official meeting, generally any time they communicate is subject to the generation of minutes and open to public scrutiny.

The closed door meetings, individual meetings with town employees, personal agendas has to stop. With the change of the vacant Bookkeeping Position going from what appeared a done deal to a position that has now been advertised, let's hope this is the first step in the right direction to making things better.

For the sake of Milton let's hope that the future is brighter than the past.
