VVA Sanford aids food pantry with BBQ benefit

Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) Chapter 1044 and its Associate Chapter (AVVA) of Sanford, Maine, held a benefit chicken BBQ on Saturday, June 28 on the grounds of The New Covenant Baptist Church in North Berwick, Maine.  Attendees made a voluntary donation of $5 for a complete chicken dinner which included salads, roasted corn, desserts, and cold beverages.

Mary Craig, director of the New Covenant Church Food Pantry, was a special guest. All donations collected that day were done so with the purpose of funding the food pantry.

Two days later a special recognition plaque and a check for $385 was presented to Mary Craig from Joe Armstrong, president of VVA Chapter 1044 on behalf of its members and that of the Associate Chapter.

This money was used to purchase over 1,100 pounds of food to feed the 131 families served by the food pantry.
