MILTON - Milton Police are reporting a rash of battery thefts from boats, lawn mowers and lawn tractors over the weekend and are asking the public’s help in solving the crimes.

Police think the thefts are being executed from the water, but are also seeking a small dark-colored pickup, possibly a Toyota, and a small four-door sedan in connection with the thefts.

Marine gas containers were also stolen.

Police Chief Richard Krauss said on Tuesday that batteries had been stolen from properties and boats along Townhouse Road, Micah Terrace and St. James Avenue.

He said police believe that operators in the boat are being notified by vehicle of homes that appear empty, then approaching from the water to execute the thefts. He said most of the thefts have occurred after midnight

During Friday and Saturday police responded to a dozen thefts of batteries at various locations around Milton Three Ponds.

Krauss said there are few leads and the suspect pool is wide.

Police are requesting anyone who lives on the water or in the area surrounding the water to report any suspicious activity to the Police Department, and to review battery types and document the make, model and any other identifying items on their batteries and gas containers.
