LEBANON - An all-day bake sale to benefit the family of the late Larry Torno was held on Sunday at the Lebanon Fire Department, while a benefit dance is planned for next month to help with mounting expenses.

Torno, Lebanon's longtime road commissioner, died earlier this month of an untreatable form of cancer, leaving the family in dire financial straits due to medical insurance premiums, burial expenses and other medical cots not covered by insurance.

Joe Perron, a longtime Torno friend who is organizing the events, said the dance is planned for March 6 at 7 p.m. at the Rochester American Legion on Western Avenue.

The cost will be $15 at the door. Lebanon Fire Chief Dan Meehan will be the deejay.

Perron, a lieutenant in the Lebanon Fire Department, said the dance will also feature lots of raffles and a 50-50.

There will be snacks available at the dance, but if anyone wants to bring food they are welcome, Perron said.

Meanwhile by noon on Sunday the bake sale had already raked in more than $100.
