GONIC - A chain reaction three-vehicle crash on Gonic Road Tuesday put a large box truck on its side, sent three to the hospital and snarled traffic on Route 125.
Two of the injured drivers were transported to Frisbie Memorial Hosptial in Rochester, while the other was sent to Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover. The extent of their injuries had not been released as of this morning.
The crash occurred around 11:45 a.m. when a 2013 Nissan Rogue driven by 65-year-old Charlene Hodsdon of Rochester was stopped on Gonic Road facing north and waiting to take a left turn on to Hemingway Drive. Hodsdon's vehicle was struck from behind by a 2015 Nissan Rogue that was traveling north on Gonic Road operated by Harold Jencks, 78, of Ossipee. The impact caused Hodsdon's vehicle to cross over the yellow line and strike the left rear axle and tire of a box truck that was traveling south on Gonic Road, police say.
The box truck, a 2016 Freightliner operated by Brian Westcott, 49, of Rochester, then crossed over the northbound side, went off the road and rolled onto its side.

The box truck carrying newspapers rolled onto its side.

There was extensive damage to all three vehicles involved.
Jencks and Westcott were transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital, while Hodsdon was transported to Wentworth Douglass Hospital.
The Freightliner was transporting newspapers at the time of the accident.
The Strafford County Regional Accident Reconstruction Team was requested and responded as well as the State Police Motor Vehicle Unit.
Traffic had to be detoured around the scene between Oak Street and Church Street while it was investigated.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation at this time.
