It's that time of year again - Cocheco Valley Humane Society is holding Tails to Trails and the 22nd annual walk for the animals on Saturday, June 4th from 11am to 2pm on the lawn of the Strafford County Courthouse. Hosted by Mark Ericson and Karen Kiley from WOKQ, Tails to Trails is a family and Fido-friendly event featuring vendors, raffles, demos, and more. While leashed dogs are welcome and encouraged, you do not need to have a dog with you to enjoy the events of the day.

CVHS is thrilled to have the New England Agility Team and Pampered Paws K9 Massage providing demonstrations throughout the day. More than 40 vendors will be on site at the event, a complete list of which can be found on the shelter's website at www.cvhsonline.org/dogwalk.cfm. Happy Pappy's Country Store will also be on hand with delicious food.

Attendees are encouraged to sign their dogs up for the Canine Capers fun dog show, taking place at 1pm. The Canine Capers includes contests for best kisser, best costume, and musical sit. Sign your dog up for one contest or enter all three! A panel of judges will award prizes for first, second, and third place in all three contest. To register, look for the Canine Capers tent at the event.

Tails to Trails is first and foremost a pledge walk for the animals, and everyone is encouraged to pre-register online. Registration is free and takes just a few minutes. Once you've registered, you can created your own personalized fundraising page and share it via email and social media. Challenge your friends and co-workers or form a team to raise even more money for the animals. Team packets, which include fundraising tips, are available to download on the dog walk webpage. Prizes will be awarded at various pledge levels and a special prize will be awarded to the top adult and youth (under 16 years old) individual and team pledge collectors.

Led by staff members with adoptable shelter dogs, the walk for the animals kicks off at 12:30pm from the courthouse lawn and follows a 1-mile loop through the woods along the Cocheco River. Dogs are not required in order to participate in this walk. Thanks to a generous donation from Jewelry Creations, 10 gold-plated Milkbones will be hidden along the walk route. If you find one, it's yours to keep!
