ROCHESTER - A city man has been indicted on felony second-degree assault charges in connection with a July incident in Rochester involving a female.

Dale Sherman, 69, of 5 Murphy Drive, is charged with two felonies - second-degree assault and attempted second-degree assault - as well as a Class A misdemeanor simple assault in the July 16 incident.

The two felony indictments allege Sherman engaged in strangulation of the victim by squeezing her neck with his hands and attempting to strangle her by kneeling on her chest.

The misdemeanor alleges he pushed her.

Both felonies are punishable by up to seven years in prison, while the misdemeanor could land him in the county jail for 12 months.

The grand jury decision was handed down on Sept. 17.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt, only that there is enough evidence to move forward with prosecution.
