ROCHESTER - A two-car collision at the intersection of Wakefield Street and Columbus Avenue left one woman injured and snarled downtown traffic for almost an hour on Sunday.

The accident occurred around 11:40 a.m. when a white SUV impacted with a red Toyota which ended up with its front end pointed west perpendicular to Wakefield Street.

A couple in the white SUV, which was headed toward the downtown, appeared to be OK, while the lone occupant of the Toyota suffered apparent neck and head injuries, one EMT was heard to say.

EMTs talked to the woman for several minutes before placing a neck brace on her and gingerly loading her onto a stretcher and into a waiting Frisbie Memorial Hospital ambulance.

An officer at the scene said the woman had become disoriented and was confused by the traffic pattern.

Police, Fire and Rescue E personnel respond to a two-vehicle crash at the corner of Wakefield Street and Columbus Avenue late Sunday morning in Rochester.

A bystander who said she lives on the west side of Wakefield Street just north of the accident scene said it is a very dangerous intersection. Nancy Seavey said when she's heading north on Wakefield Street and wants to turn left into her driveway she instead travels north toward Spaulding High School before turning around and entering her driveway while heading southbound to avoid a dangerous turn-in.

The condition of the driver was not known. Rochester Police were not immediately available for comment on the accident today.
