GONIC - Richard W. "Dick" Timmons, 78, died on Sunday, October 23, 2016, at the Rochester Manor following a period of failing health. Born March 25, 1938, in Dover, N.H., he was the son of the late Carl and Mildred (Varney) Grace.
Dick grew up in Rochester, graduated Spaulding High School, class of 1957 and remained a Rochester citizen living in Gonic for over 52 years.
Starting in his early career he worked for NH Finance in Dover and then a short while as a Patrolman with the Rochester Police Department. After which he worked at Ray's Marina in Milton for many years. He finished his career working at Southeast Bank in Dover where he ran their collections department up until his retirement.
Dick was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Dover, N.H., for nearly 40 years, serving as Chairman of the scholarships committee and involved in many other community activities. He was also a member of the Rochester Historical Society.
He was quite a handyman and he enjoyed puttering in his workshop making walking sticks and lamps. He also enjoyed watching historical, educational and documentary TV programs, taking his children fishing on family trips and spending time with his grandchildren.
Members of his family include his wife of 55 years Mary (Varney) Timmons of Gonic, N.H.; his children Paul and wife Marti of York, Maine; Carl of Dover, N.H.; and Glen and wife Joanne of Malden, Mass.; three grandchildren Christopher, Graem, and CJ, one brother Fred Timmons of Texas; one sister Barbara Winters of Rochester, N.H.; two brother-in-laws John Hamilton of Ala.; and Bruce Varney of Milford, N.H.; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister Joanne (Grace) Hamilton, a sister Dorothy Sanborn and brother-in law Ivory Sanborn Sr.
