ROCHESTER - Raymond Fredrick Delano, 97, a resident of Rochester, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015 in the home of his daughter, Susan, who was present at his death.
He was born March 30, 1918 at the family home in Lee, Maine, the son Lee and Ethel Delano. Ray married his high school sweetheart, Rena Bennett, on November 30, 1939. They were married, as he often said himself, "for 72 wonderful years" before Rena passed away.
Ray was a veteran and served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a faithful husband and father of six children. Ray provided for his wife and family by being a business entrepreneur most of his life, having owned and run several small businesses throughout his career. He took great joy in providing work opportunities for others and seeing the businesses he ran grow and prosper, but most of all he loved to help others in need. He enjoyed fishing, taking trips with the family, woodworking, and especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ray was an active member of Heritage Baptist Church for many years and attended services right up to a few weeks before going home to be with the Lord.
Ray and Rena were residents of Durham, N.H., for almost 40 years before moving to Rochester. They were members of Heritage Baptist Church in Dover. He is survived by two sisters: Mrs. Helen Fisher and Mrs. Jean Grant and his beloved children: Gail and her husband Rolland C. Starr of Arlington, Mass.; Mary Rochford of Jaffrey, N.H.; John R. Delano and his wife Janie of Hudson, NH; Susan and her husband David M. Thompson of Durham, Maine; Lois and her husband Steven G. Molasky of Portsmouth, N.H.; and Diana and her husband Jack J. Hadam of Madison, N.H.
Grandchildren include, Jennifer L. Rochford, Javelle and her husband Christopher J. Symons, Joshua R. Delano and his wife Jen, Mark A. Thompson and his wife Thaedra, Jeremy B. Thompson, Christina G. Thompson, Jared M. Hadam and his wife Caryn, Elijah J. Hadam, Quinn M. Hadam, and Isaac J. Hadam.
He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren.
