QUEENS, N.Y. - A Rochester, N.H., man was accused of firing shots at police in Queens on Monday.

Police said Jeremy Clark, 27, was armed when he broke into a Queens residence.

A woman living there with her child hid in a bathroom and called 911, police said.

Clark later came out of the house, but police said he fired at officers before his arrest.

Clark was charged with attempted murder of a police officer, burglary and reckless endangerment among other charges.

The incident began at 56th Avenue in Maspeth when, according to city cable television station NY1, witnesses said they heard three men in the area fighting and that Clark shot at a woman in a van before targeting police.

"So they're looking in to their left and they're speaking with him. They challenged him, they say, 'Were the police. Put the gun down. Come out.' He says, 'You're not the police.' One of the officers then takes out his shield and says, 'Yes I am. I am the police.' At this point, he fires at the officers one round that goes into a wall, not hitting the officers," said Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce

"One of the gunmen ran out of the house when the police came in front of my house," one witness said. "They were telling him to get on the ground. Police had their guns out. They kept on telling him to get on the ground or they were going to shoot him. Eventually he cooperated with the cops."

Officials say police did not return fire, and no one was injured.

A gun was recovered at the scene.

Authorities say all of the involved men are now in custody.

Another media report noted at least two of the men involved suffered from drug or mental health issues.
