DOVER, N.H. - A Gonic woman indicted on felony possession of heroin and fentanyl has been charged with three additional misdemeanors for allegedly leaving the drugs within easy reach of her three young sons.

Kayla Kenny, 34, of 194 Pickering Road, was found in possession of heroin and fentanyl on Feb. 4, police say, after they were called to her residence after reports of an overdose at the house.

The two drug possession charges carry prison terms of up to 15 years apiece. The three misdemeanors carry yearlong sentences at the county jail. Kenny had prior convictions on both drug charges.

The children are ages 9, 8 and 6.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid approximately 80 to 100 times more potent than morphine and roughly 15 to 20 times more potent than heroin. It is sometimes mixed with heroin and has been blamed in a spate of heroin overdoses - some fatal - in the Rochester area in the recent past.

The indictments were handed down March 19 and released on Tuesday.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt, only that enough evidence has been produced to warrant a trial.
