PORTSMOUTH - An infamous video widely shown on New England television stations and shared on social media has led to the arrest of a Dover man in the Gilleys sucker punch incident.

James Egal, 33, was arrested Sunday.

The alleged sucker punch was thrown in the early morning hours of June 20, a short time after Portsmouth bars had closed and when normally a large crowd gathers outside the popular Fleet Street eatery known for its hot dogs.

Surveillance video posted on the Portsmouth Police Department's Facebook page and youtube shows the assault in which an unsuspecting victim is suddenly attacked with several haymakers.

The victim suffered minor injuries and refused treatment.

Egal has been charged with one count of simple assault. He was released on personal recognizance and faces arraignment in Portsmouth District Court next month.
