NORTH BERWICK, Maine - Police are closing in on a suspect in the Noble High School bomb threat that shut the school down Wednesday.

"By the end of the day an arrest is possible," Berwick Police Chief Stephen Peasley told The Lebanon Voice today.

The threat was announced on a Twitter Page on Tuesday night and brought to the attention of high school officials Wednesday morning, forcing the shutdown.

MSAD 60 Superintendent Steven Connolly called the threat "credible."

As usual in the case of a bomb threat at NHS students were shuttled to Noble Middle School where facilities were found to accommodate all groups.

Connolly sounded a warning for those who committed the crime.

"I am reviled by the nature of this kind of intrusion to the educational day of half the students - it disrupted all middle school learning today as well - in our district," Connolly said in a message to parents and students on the school's website. "We will discover the identity of the perpetrator(s) and follow through to the full extent of options available to the school district."

Peaslee said today that Berwick Police and the Maine Computer Crimes Task Force had both made some progress into their investigation as to the individual or individuals suspected to be responsible for posting the Tweet that shut the school down. He added that at this point it could be a couple of suspects or it could be just one. He noted that Berwick Police had also made contributions to the probe.

During the height of Wednesday's bomb search at the school state and local police as well as bomb-sniffing dogs were employed in a search that ultimately came up empty.

If convicted the suspect or suspects could face substantial jail time, Peaslee said.
