Deep in the throes of winter let's face it: there's not much to do round here, 'cept maybe keep the fire going.

What a difference a 100 days make.

Here we are in the midst of a massive heat wave - perfect beach weather - and staring at a weekend full of dynamic entertainment and fun events that will snowball (pardon the winter lexicon) right through till the last orange and red leaves fall in late October.

As they say somewhere, here we go!

First there's TributeFest, a six pack of renowned tribute bands performing at the Tri-City Arena (Rochester Fairgrounds) both Saturday and Sunday. If you haven't been out to one of the events out there this summer, you should give it a try. The events are well organized and run. Bands being covered include U2, Aerosmith, Jason Aldean (who plays on NBC's Today Show on Friday), Garth Brooks Bon Jovi and Abba. Go out and BE THE DANCING QUEEN.

Meanwhile on Saturday afternoon a plethora of first-rate reggae bands will perform at the Governor's Inn in Rochester at the 4th Annual Reggae and Craft Beer Fest. Bands performing include Sleepy Wonder, Puma Ptah, The Continent, Kenyatta Hill, Congo Sanchez, Freddy Loco, the Soul Rebel Project, and The Rhythm Ship. There will also be plenty of Jamaican style barbecue and dozens of craft brews on hand to wash it down.

It's a regular garden party. C'mon mon, enjoy yourself.

And don't forget the area-renowned Calico Fair at St. John the Baptist Church in Sanbornville earlier on Saturday where there will be a live auction of quality furniture, sports memorabilia and other treasures that will go to the highest bidder. How exciting is that! Who knows what you'll go home with!

The fair will also feature its award-winning barbecue chicken along with strawberry shortcake, a giganticnormous yard sale, bling buys, bake table, a real live clown making balloons and doing face painting for kids and gift card raffles. The fair runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is located at 118 High St., Sanbornville. Just follow the crowd!

Finally to get the weekend kick-started, on Friday for the first time in forever, you can take the kids to the movie at the Lilac Mall on short money. Austin Cinemas opens up with four classics: Maleficent, Pretty Woman, Nightmare Before Christmas and Iron Man.

Adults are just $5, kids just $3. You'll even have money left over to buy 'em dinner out, for gosh sakes.

Don't miss out when the goins good. After all, in another 100 days we'll be back where we started. But let's not go there now.
