Today the little town of Milton begins the biggest and best wintertime party in the Northern Seacoast, and with all the snow and ice on Milton Three Ponds, it could be the best ever.

For anyone who has never been to Milton's Winter Carnival, this is the year to go.

Milton has a wonderful Town Beach where many of the activities take place, plus this year is extra special because the town will be celebrating the ribbon cutting of its spanking new fire department station house across the street from the beach.

Tonight the Milton Moose is the major venue with a pool tournament, chowder and chili cookoff and a special meat bingo.

Tomorrow there will be an ice fishing derby for kids and adults, an ice-cutting demonstration and so much more at Town Beach. Families are encouraged to come down to the beach and make a day of it in the great outdoors, in the cold, away from Xbox and TV, in real time, literally. Don't waste another Saturday on the couch when you can be outside, making snow sculptures, drinking hot cocoa and watching the hot air ballon contest while drinking in beautifully brisk winter air.

And for those who'd rather stay inside, there's plenty for you, too, with a whole slew of activities taking place all day at the Emma Ramsey Center, including bingo, a magic show, a wildlife encounters zoo and much, much more. There will also be wagon rides with Belgian Meadow Farms of Lebanon.

Tonight, the focus shifts back to the Milton Moose with a dance featuring American Ride, a renowned country band from Portland, Maine. The public is invited but tickets are required to get in.

Milton should be proud of their Winter Carnival and folks from all over are invited to the party. See you there!
