ROCHESTER - The City of Rochester will be hosting a Public Information Meeting in the Belknap Room at the Frisbie Hospital Conference Center at 7 p.m. on Monday. The purpose of the meeting is to provide an update about the proposed expansion of public sewer into the neighborhood.

The City is under way with the first phase of the project which involves installing a new gravity sewer pipe beneath the Spaulding Turnpike. Installation of this new sewer line will enable the future expansion of gravity sewer into the Colonial Pines Neighborhood. A $2 million contract for this phase of the project has been awarded to local Rochester contractor S.U.R. Construction. You may have noticed activity at the end of Birch Drive which has been ongoing in preparation of this pending work.

The gravity line beneath the turnpike should be completed by late summer. The remaining expansion of sewer into the neighborhood is projected to be phased in over the next three years. The pending Capital Improvements Plan includes a $6 million total sewer expansion project that is broken out into 3 phases ($2 million each year in FY's 18, 19 & 20).

All residents and property owners in the vicinity of the proposed project are encouraged to attend. Representatives from the City will be on hand to share details of the project and to hopefully address any questions or concerns.

Now that progress has commenced, we would like to solicit feedback on which areas of the neighborhood are in most immediate need of the sewer expansion.

Should you have any questions, please contact City Engineer Michael Bezanson at the Department of Public Works at (603) 332-4096.
