SANFORD, Maine - Police are warning the public about a possible abduction attempt of a 10-year-old girl in Sanford on Tuesday.

Police say that officers were called around 6:15 p.m. to the corner of High and Bates streets where two 10-year-old girls told them a man in a black van pulled up alongside of them while they were walking and spoke to them.

The male driver is said to have gotten out of  his vehicle, grabbed one of the girls’ shirts and pulled her. The other girl who was walking in front turned and yelled to him, and he let go, got back in the van and left the area.

The suspect is described as a tall black male in his 40s, bald, with a scruffy beard turning slightly gray. He was wearing a green shirt and blue jeans.

The van is described as mostly black with windows on the driver and passenger side. The rear doors were white.

The females were not injured in this incident.

Police are asking anyone who may have information to call the detective division at the Sanford Police at 324-9170.
