Man gets 10 to 20 years in prison for role in Dover shooting

DOVER - The man charged along with a Milton woman in a brazen daytime robbery and shooting in Dover a year ago was sentenced to 10 to 20 years in state prison today.

Jeremy Jackson, 24, pleaded guilty in the Dec. 12, 2015, attack earlier this year under a capped plea bargain.

He was sentenced today by Strafford County Superior Court Judge Mark E. Howard to 10-20 years on the armed robbery charge, plus two three- to six-year consecutive sentences for violating conditions of probation and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

He was also sentenced to a 20-year suspended sentence for conspiring to commit the robbery, which was allegedly planned with Charles Brown, 42, of New Hampshire State Prison in Concord, and Haley Cahill, 20, of 10 Saltbox Lane, Milton.

Court records state the three acted in concert on in committing the robbery and threatening the victim by pointing a gun at him.

The shooting occurred around 11 a.m. with witnesses reporting to police that Jackson was involved in an altercation with another man outside a residence on George Street in Dover and pointed a handgun at him, a police statement released shortly after the incident said.

After the victim ran away from Jackson, he fired a shot into the victim's residence and fled the scene.

No one was injured in the shooting.

Brown allegedly helped plan the robbery from prison and conversed by phone prior to its execution," Dover Police Lt. Brant Dolleman said shortly after the initial indictments, adding that Brown and Jackson could also have hatched their plan in prison where they had spent time together in the past.

After an initial investigation Dover Police Department detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Jackson with criminal threatening, reckless conduct, and being a felon in possession of a firearm, all felony charges.

Two days later on Dec. 14, Dover and Rochester Police along with the Strafford County Sheriff's Office Drug Task Force located Jackson in an apartment building at 17 Norway Plains Road in Rochester where he was taken into custody without incident.

It is alleged that Jackson, who was released from the Dover jail just hours before the alleged robbery and shooting, had material help from Cahill in commission of the crimes.

Principal allegation listed in the July indictments are that Cahill "picked up Jackson from the House of Corrections," and/or "drove Jackson to the location where the robbery occurred," and/or "provided Jackson with a firearm," and/or "drove Jackson away from the scene."

The original indictments charged Brown with two counts of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, Jackson with two counts of armed robbery and Cahill with one count of conspiracy to commit armed robbery and one count of armed robbery.

Jackson, who wrote a letter of apology for today's sentencing, was remanded immediately to state prison to begin his sentence.

Cahill, who has a dispositional conference set for next month, was also indicted this fall on two counts of fentanyl possession and trafficking charges.

The October indictments indicate Cahill was out on bail when her arrest on the drug charges occurred in Somersworth on Aug. 11.
She remains out on bail, a Strafford Jail spokesman said today.
