MILTON - Lauretta Jean Tilton, 77, died on Monday, June 20, 2016, at her home following a period of failing health. Born August 28, 1938, in Wesleyville, Newfoundland, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Minnie (Dyke) Bishop.
Growing up on Islands off the coast of Newfoundland, the daughter of a Seaman, she loved the sea and was proud of her Newfoundland heritage.
Jean was a loving mother and military wife, travelling throughout the US and Foreign Territories. Her travels included living in Florida, California, Washington, Japan, Maine and Cuba.
She worked as an ITT head operator in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and later was the manager of Hebert Candies in Kittery, Maine.
Jean enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, and playing bingo. Grammy's home was always warm and welcome to all of her grandchildren near and far.
She was her daughters, sons and grandchildren's best friend. Sweet and caring and always listening with an open ear.
After retirement, Bert and Jean purchased a Winnebago and spent many years traveling to visit Family and Friends throughout the USA and Canada with her favorite dogs, Suzzie and Frisky. She especially loved traveling home to NFLD.
Members of her family include her beloved husband of 59 years, Bertram Tilton of Milton, her children Bert Tilton and Glynn of Warner Robbins, Ga.; Cindy Tilton and Victor of Jacksonville, Fla.; John Tilton and Teresa of Kittery; Susan Miller and Jon of Colusa, Calif.; and Laura Tilton and Ronald of Milton; Her grandchildren Charles, Richard, Marilyn, Sarah, Ronald, and Justin, her sisters Marilyn and Norma and one brother William, several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister Ramona.
