EAST ROCHESTER - James "Jimmy" Melvin Dowe, 70, died in his sleep on Sunday, April 24, 2016, following a period of declining health. Born in Exeter August 2, 1945, to Lawrence and Dorothy (Kimball) Dowe.
As a child he lived on the family farm in Newmarket before moving with his family to Dover. He attended Dover schools including Dover High School where he excelled as a Linebacker on the football team. He married Sonia Boucher in 1975 and together they raised four boys in Rochester.

A lifelong learner, Jimmy sought higher education. He attended classes well into his 60s. He was an avid reader and staunch advocate of education. One of his favorite places was the library and he valued the resources that furthered his education and knowledge. He was a nature lover and appreciated things most in their natural state.
