ROCHESTER - Gilles Poirier M.D., 82, died Sunday, October 12, 2014, at the Rochester Manor in Rochester after a period of failing health.

Dr. Poirier was born in St-Félix-de-Valois, QC, Canada on June 7, 1932 the son of Cléophas and Mélanie (Benny) Poirier. Earning his medical degree from the University of Montreal in 1959, he practiced medicine in Bois-des-Filion, QC, Canada, and from 1972 in Rochester, until his retirement in 1994. He also served as Secretary of the N.H. Medical Society. He was predeceased by his son Charles.

Surviving members of the family include his wife of 57 years, Madeleine (Desrosiers) Poirier of Rochester, son Louis Poirier of Buffalo Grove, Ill., his wife Manli Zheng and grandsons Nicholas and Mark Poirier, sister and brothers Thérèse, Donald, Benny, Yves, and many nieces and nephews.
