DAYTON, Maine - The driver in a weekend crash in Dayton that killed a 20-year-old Sanford man and two others had multiple operating after suspension violations, was classified a habitual offender and did not have a valid license at the time of the crash.

Jill Ann Theriault, 33, the driver; Lee Goodrich, 45, of Alfred, and Devin Nolan all died instantly in the Gould Road crash.

It appears the group was coming from Sanford and headed to where Theriault was staying with family members in Dayton, a couple of miles from the crash site, Maine State Police told the Portland Press Herald in a story in today's edition.

The Press Herald story said witnesses who responded to the accident reported smelling alcohol, but Maine State Trooper Jonathan Heimbach said while there may have been evidence alcohol was present, authorities don't know who had been drinking.or whether it played a role in the crash.

The Chief Medical Examiner will determine if it did as blood tests will be performed as in all serious accidents.

Theriault had several active suspensions on her license and she was listed as a habitual offender in the Bureau of Motor Vehicles database in 2014 after three convictions for operating after suspension within a five-year period.

Theriault wasn't eligible to have her license reinstated until 2017.

Her criminal record includes convictions for drug trafficking in 2000; forgery and refusing to submit to arrest in 2011; theft and identity theft in 2012; criminal trespass in 2013; and fighting, assault and forgery in 2014, according to the State Bureau of Identification.

Goodrich, who was sitting in the back seat, and Theriault were wearing seat belts, police said. Nolan, who was in the front passenger seat, was not, Heimbach said.
