SANFORD, Maine - David P. Gerrish, 73, of Sanford, formerly of Acton, died on Sunday, September 18, 2016, at the Greenwood Center in Sanford, Maine, while surrounded by his family after a period of declining health due to Parkinson's disease. David was born in Sanford on November 1, 1942, and was a graduate of Sanford High School.
He was enrolled in the National Guard for a short period of time. By trade he was a truck driver and won many safe driving awards.
In his younger days he enjoyed snowmobiling, roller skating and antique cars. He also enjoyed volunteering for the Acton Fire Department. During his time while in the Sanfield Nursing Home in Hartland and most recently Greenwood Center in Sanford he enjoyed playing BINGO and listening to music.
David is predeceased by his father Paul Gerrish, his mother Jessie Johnson and his longtime friend Buddy the yellow lab.
He is survived by his daughter Tara Watts and her husband Andrew of Newburyport, Mass., his son Thad Gerrish of Lenoir, N.C., and a grandson. Also surviving are family friends Doris and Wayne Joaquin of Lebanon.
