ROCHESTER - A Rochester teenager was cited for failure to yield in a motor vehicle crash on Wednesday night that left a Rochester motorcyclist seriously injured.

The crash occurred around 7:15 p.m. in the area of Washington Street and Fairway Avenue when the car and motorcycle collided.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel located several passers-by tending to an injured male lying on the road on Washington Street up against the sidewalk at the corner of Washington and Fairway. Nearby was the motorcycle on its side on the sidewalk and motorcycle debris scattered in the intersection. The other vehicle was located on Fairway Avenue with heavy front end damage.

Police briefly shut down the area of Washington and Fairway while emergency personnel tended to the driver of the motorcycle.

Through Police investigation and witness statements, it appeared as if the motorcycle, a 1983 Suzuki GS550LD, being driven by Gregory Downing, 40, was traveling east on Washington into town when it was struck by a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by Cameron Horne, 17, as he was turning left onto Fairway Avenue from Washington Street.

Downing was transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital with what were described as serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Horne was issued a summons for failure to yield.
