At Pat's Prims, it's out with the new, in with the old

MILTON - Milton’s newest business is all about looking old, as in primitive furnishings.

On Saturday, husband and wife team Kellie Chase and Stephen Mosher opened Pat’s Prims, named after Chase’s mom, Pat, in an unused portion of her 1241 White Mountain Highway home.

Inside you’ll find lots of “primitive” furniture and knickknacks. Some of the furniture is really old; other pieces are brand new and made by Mosher, but then treated, or “distressed,” to give them that old-timey, rustic appearance.

Chase formerly led the New Durham (New Hampshire) Parks and Rec Department for some four years before quitting Aug. 1 to open the new store. She said she’s been working full time since then to get it spruced up.

Their first day was on Saturday, and Chase pointed to empty spaces in the store to show how many pieces she’d already sold by mid-afternoon.

Mosher, who also works for Dube Construction out of Wakefield, has been making furniture for years, including doll furniture.

When “primitive” pieces came in vogue several years ago, he and Chase embraced the trend in their own home’s furnishings and decor.

“People would come to our house and say, ‘Who made that’ and they seemed to really like it,” Chase said on Saturday.

Pat’s Primitives is open every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This weekend they’ll be open Monday as well.

They’re planning a grand opening for Sept. 13-14, with discounted prices, food and door prizes.
