Editor's note: Every month during the school year, Milton Free Public Library highlights a student from Milton who exemplifies the positives of our town and school. The teachers nominate these "Star Students." Betsy Baker, the director of the Milton Free Public Library, interviews these "Stars."

MILTON - There are many wonderful students in Nute Middle School. We often forget that middle school students are thoughtful, aware and really interesting, but assume that students of this age group should be "hiding their light under a bushel basket." Seventh-grader Arianna Galarneau is definitely a star who should let her light shine.

Arianna's Language Arts Teacher, Rebecca Soucy, describes her this way: "Arianna is a talented writer. She also loves to read. She has a great attitude and always shows up to class with a smile on her face and a song to sing to me (which then usually turns into a duet). I enjoy breaking into song randomly with her, and the rest of the class finds it rather odd but entertaining."

Arianna spends very little time sitting in front of a television screen (unless "The Walking Dead" is on), but is out in the community. She is very busy with her 4H project, raising chickens, which also became a project in raising awareness about how disease is spread in chickens. Once Arianna realized that chickens are not tested before entering them in a community fair, she has also started educating lawmakers and various fair officials about the importance of testing for respiratory illnesses in birds before showing any fowl at a show or fair setting.

While Arianna can be a girly-girl and loves shopping with her mother, she is also looking forward to deer hunting with her father. She has thought about practicing her aim on squirrels.

Arianna is also involved in sports: basketball, softball, and (especially) volleyball. She cannot wait until she is a member of the Nute High School volleyball team and hopes to be a part of another Nute champion team.

Ms Galarneau also plans to be a nurse once she has completed her schooling.
