DOVER - The Dover Police Department and the Office of The Chief Medical Examiner are investigating what will likely be the second opioid overdose death in just over a week in the Garrison City.
Police said today that on Tuesday around 12:15 a.m. they responded to the residence of 38-year-old Sarah Taliaferro of 20 Whittier St. after she was found unresponsive. Taliaferro was transported to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
While the cause and manner of Taliaferro's death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, police at this time say it appears to be an overdose. An autopsy was conducted Tuesday, but a full determination is awaiting more investigation and toxicology reports that aren't available yet.
If Taliaferro's death is due to a drug overdose, it will be the 11th in Dover in 2016, all of which are suspected to be opioid related overdoses.
On Oct 10 Dover resident Daniel Wong was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead, his death also thought to be from a drug overdose.
The Dover Police Department has responded to 48 nonfatal drug overdoses this year.
This case is being investigated by the Dover Police Department's Special Investigations Bureau.
