Acton Fair will have plenty for young and old alike

ACTON, Maine - A hands-on food and farm demonstration for young children will be one of the new highlights for this year’s 149^th running of the Acton Fair which starts today.

Titled “Farmers Little Helper,” the demonstration will teach youngsters age 2 to 10 about the food they eat and how it’s produced, said Donna Goodrich, the fair’s treasurer, on Tuesday.

The interactive exhibit will also allow youngsters to experience milking a cow, using a simulated udder and learn how sheep are sheared to produce wool.

It’s all kid-friendly, said Goodrich, who added there are plenty of instructions to help parents guide their children through the exhibits.

The “Farmers Little Helper” exhibit will be located next to the Flower Building and be open Thursday and Friday from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon-4 p.m.

Admission to the fair for adults in $7, with children under 12 free.

Midway rides are “pay one price” Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

Senior citizen day is on Friday when anyone 60 or over gets admission from when the fairgrounds open at 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. for just $3.

Other highlights for the fair are the Skillet Toss for women on Saturday (sponsored by Aubuchon), lumberjacking events on Sunday at Woodmen’s Day and the Miss Acton Fair Pageant (sponsored by Spence and Mathews Insurance) on Friday.
