CONWAY, N.H. - Abigail Hernandez, whose disappearance last October riveted northern New England and resulted in massive searches near her Conway home, was reunited with her family on Sunday night.

The brief press release announcing the stunning development gave no details on the circumstances of her return, but said her mother, Zenya Hernandez, told officers that “Today we are the happiest people on earth.”

Officials said the facts and circumstances surrounding Abigail's disappearance continue to be actively investigated by members of various law enforcement agencies.

They stated that further details will be provided once it has been determined that releasing additional information will not compromise an ongoing criminal investigation.

The Hernandez family has requested privacy as they assist with continuing law enforcement efforts and supporting and caring for Abigail.

15-year-old Abigail Hernandez was last seen Oct. 9 after leaving Kennett High School in Conway. She sent several texts to family members that afternoon, but never made it home until Sunday.

Police said several months ago that she had written home to her mother. When the letter surfaced, FBI officials said there was the possibility that Abigail had run away, but she could have been coerced into staying.
