20-mile chase ends with deployment of spike mats

ALFRED - A Sanford man led Sheriff's Deputies on a chase through three towns that ended in Lebanon Friday afternoon.

It all began when deputies tried to stop Jeffrey Fournier, 48, for speeding on Back Road in Shapleigh around 2:30 p.m.

Fournier sped off toward Route 109 and then took Deering, Hanson's Ridge, Oak and Philbrick roads in Sanford and finally Fall and Lower Middle roads in Lebanon.

The chase went on for about 20 miles before it ended with the deployment of spike mats.

Fournier was charged with eluding a police officer, driving to endanger and driving without a license.

He is being held at the York County Jail on $2,000 bail.
